Energy Minister Amewu Giving Free Fuel To Party Footsoldiers

Whatsup News has intercepted evidence showing several thousands of free fuel coupons that the Minister of Energy, John Peter Amewu is distributing to party footsoldiers of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The coupons worth GHC 100 of fuel will allow these party apparatchiks to draw free fuel valued at the coupon rate from selected fuel stations, particularly the state-owned oil marketing company, GOIL.

The coupons have been boldly embossed with the Minister’s picture of the Minister with the slogan: “Vote John Peter Amewu”.

The Minister is contesting the Hohoe constituency parliamentary seat in the Volta Region, and the free fuel bonanza is part of the several questionable schemes he has reportedly initiated using his influence as an appointed official to siphon state public resources into his campaign.

There has been reports of social interventions to his constituency by the Akufo Addo administration being diverted as campaign goodies.

The fuel coupon is obviously the latest in the string of conflict of interest situation that the Energy Minister is embroiled in. He is the Minister in charge of the petroleum sector, therefore a free fuel to party loyalists is seen clearly as influence peddling and abuse of office.

It is unclear if there are any other denominations for Mr. Amewu’s free fuel giveaway for his campaign.

Meanwhile, the Minister was recently involved in another scandal, where he was named as one of the appointees who had “stolen” a number of mining excavators to engage in illegal mining operations in the country.

A few months ago, when he was busted for diverting mining excavators seized by security agencies to mine his own illegal mining sites, Ekow Ewusi, the Deputy Central Regional Vice Chairman of the NPP told police investigators that Mr. Amewu, who was once the minister for Lands and Natural Resources took for himself some 20 seized excavators.

According to Mr. Ewusi, the current Energy Minister sent some people to commandeer the 20 excavators to an unknown location.

This was at the time he was actively responsible for fighting illegal mining operations in the country.
