The Police in Asawase, Ashanti, have rounded up a number National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Executives of that Constituency for an unknown reason.
Commander for Ashanti Regional Police Command, COP Kwasi Mensah Duku is said to have sent men to arrest the executives, as the arrests were confirmed by a statement signed by Isham Alhassan, Ashanti regional Organizer of the NDC.
“…I wish to inform all party faithfuls that, some party executives in the ASAWASE constituency have been arrested by the Ashanti Regional police command for no reason. I am by this medium, calling and encouraging all our party members in the metropolis to mass up at the Central police station to protest and demand for their immediate release from the police custody,” the statement said.
Whatsup News has since seen video footages of people massing up at the Police Station. In the videos, angry NDC members and supporters defied Police pleas for them to leave the station with some hopping to sit on the charge office counter in solidarity with the arrested executives.
Others angry supporters of the NDC warned that the ruling NPP was courting bloodshed in Asawase if the intimidation is not halted.
Asawase has traditionally been a stronghold of the NDC within the Ashanti Region which is the main regional stronghold of the NPP.
Ashanti regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has vowed to use all means possible to dislodge the NDC’s longstanding MP for the area, Muntaka Mubarak.
Critics believe the police may have been acting on the command of Bernard Antwi Boasiako and some high-ups in the Akufo Addo administration.
