Ahmed Suale’s Murder Is Still Under Investigation-Interior Minister-Designate Claims

The Minister-designate for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has claimed that the Ghana Police Service has not lost interest in the 2019 dastardly murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein Suale.

Taking his turn before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Dery who has been re-nominated for the same portfolio, waxed lyrical about his Ministry’s supposed concern with the investigation, claiming the Constabulary he oversees is even constantly in touch with him over the matter.

“Just last Wednesday was the last time I asked for an update from the CID, It’s not the case that it (investigation) has died,” Mr. Dery told MPs vetting him on Parliament’s Appointment Committee.

WhatsUp News has heard from Police sources that Ambrose Dery only called the Police Headquarters for update on the case which has virtually gone cold just a few days to his appearance to enable him refresh his memory in preparation to face the Appointments Committee.

His Ministry and the Akufo-Addo government is widely believed to be disinterested in bringing perpetrators to book because all pointers are towards the government itself as the hiding place for the assassins.

Suale was timed in traffic at Madina in Accra and shot dead by gunmen riding on a motor bicycle. His murder had happened just days after MP for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong, had used his radio station, Oman FM, to incite the public against him, suggesting that anyone who can lynch him.

And the incitement was due to the fact that Suale had been part of an investigative team that exposed the former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nynatakyi as a bribe-taker, who, according to his own confession in a secret video, was planning to share a US$8million bribe with President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia.

Agyapong’s linkage to the murder led to a US Congressman, Hank Johnson, asking the US Secretary of State to ban Agyapong from traveling to the US. He also asked for the FBI to join in the investigation of the assassination. However, the Ghanaian government has not even interrogated him.

Meanwhile, in December 2020, an investigative journalist who has worked with Ahmed Suale before, released a video of President Akufo-Addo allegedly taking bribe from a civil servant who was afraid the President would fire him.

Damning issues that arose out of the revelation included suggestions that Ahmed had been murdered out of a mistaken identity, as he was wrongly thought of as being the recorder of the alleged bribery scenario involving President Akufo Addo.

This is because, the undercover investigative journalists who recorded the President’s alleged bribery, was the namesake of Ahmed. He was called Salis Yakubu Suale.

Incidentally, Salis Suale has worked with Ahmed Suale on some other undercover investigations in the past.
