Double Whammy For Suspended Boxer, Patrick Alotey, As Court Hands Him Ghc100, 000 Bail

The woes of Former WBO Africa Junior Middle Weight Champion, Patrick Allotey, who is facing a six month ban imposed on him by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) for assaulting a soccer fan, worsened today as an Accra court handed him bail in the sum of Ghc100,000 over the same offence.
Allotey suffered the double whammy during his first appearance in the assault case brought against him for pummeling co-spectator, Michael Siaw, at the Accra Sports Stadium during a clash between arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges, leading to the hefty bail. As part of the same bail condition, he is to provide three sureties, two of whom are supposed to be public servants, deposit his passport at the registry of the court and report to the Police station every Wednesday.
The case has since been adjourned to the 25th of February.
In January, while a spectator at the Accra Sports Stadium, Allotey beat up a fellow spectator after a misunderstanding. Video footages of the incident feature him really dishing it out to the fan, who was apparently, a fan of Asante Kotoko.
Apparently, a late penalty awarded to Kotoko which was the instrument of the Kumasi club’s win over Patrick Allotey’s Hearts, had evoked over-exuberance in Siaw, who kept jubilating provocatively around the same place Allotey was standing.
This led to a misunderstanding and soon after, the pugilist was beating on the fan.
Following from that Allotey has apologized several times for what he says was his indiscretion, however, the same man today pleaded not guilty to the offence of assault and battery.
