BBNaija 2020: Grand prize for season 5 winner announced

The organiser of the popular reality TV show Big Brother Naija, MultiChoice, has revealed the grand prize for its fifth season premiering on Sunday, July 19.

In a statement on Monday said this season’s winner would walk away with a gross prize of cash, trips, sponsor products and a house all valued at N85m ($218,000)!

A breakdown of the prize include a N30 million ($77,000) cash prize; a two-bedroom apartment courtesy Revolution Plus; a top of the range SUV from Nigerian automaker, Innoson Motors; a trip to Dublin courtesy Guinness; home appliances courtesy Scanfrost; a trip to Dubai packaged by Travelbeta; a year’s supply of Indomie noodles, Munch it and Colgate toothpaste; a year’s supply of Pepsi, a branded chiller and a trip to watch the UEFA Champions League finale; and a brand new Oppo mobile smartphone.

“The fifth season of BBNaija marks a major milestone in the reality TV series. We are making this season significant by not only increasing the winnings, but by also implementing other creative and innovative ways to ensure the show lives up to the premium entertainment especially during the current pandemic,” said Chief Executive Officer John Ugbe.

Despite the growing devastation of coronavirus pandemic, the company has assured viewers that the best global health practices will be put in place to ensure the safety of contestants. Already, the contestants are in quarantine to ensure that they are Covid-19 free and not a risk to others.

To keep the housemates safe and coronavirus-free in season five of the show the house will be frequently disinfected in the course of the show. Furthermore, there will be no live audience at the Sunday eviction show and that external visitors like visiting celebrities and BBNaija Ninjas will not be featured this year.

Carefully tested measures have been put in place to ensure minimal contact with outsiders once the housemates enter the house, the statement added. ”This includes the ‘ninjas’, who may not be very visible during the show due to COVID-19 realities. Before the show kicks off, anyone who shows signs of ill health will as expected not to be a part of the show. ”The production crew will work in (socially distanced) shifts. There will be no live audience at the Sunday night eviction shows,” they added.

The fifth season of Big Brother Naija will start airing from the 19th of July 2020 on all active DStv Premium, Compact Plus, Compact and Family on channel 198 and on GOtv MAX packages only on channel 129.
