…Majority Leader Begs
Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, is worried that his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), may lose the 2024 general elections.
Even more worrying to him is the prospect that they will remain in opposition for three terms if they lose the elections.
The Suame MP made the concern known when he addressed an NPP delegates’ conference at the constituency.
“We said we want to break the eight but brethren, if we do not unite, breaking the eight will be impossible, we’ll go into opposition for not less 12 years. Breaking the eight is not just about talking but we need to work hard in order to achieve what we’re wishing for.” Kyei Mensah advised.
The Majority Leader, therefore, urged members to close their ranks and work in unity for another term for the NPP.
But the NPP government has been facing criticism for massive corruption and its poor handling of the economy.
Former President John Mahama of the NDC has told Ghanaians the only way that corrupt actors in the Akufo-Addo government will face retribution is if the NPP is voted out in 2024.
The hint from the NDC’s 2020 presidential candidate, therefore, is that if the NDC wins the 2024 elections, it will go after the many persons involved in the many corruption scandals of the Akufo-Addo government.
Meanwhile, Kyei Mensah Bonsu who is also the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said the NPP government is delivering on developmental projects including a petroleum hub in Ghana to be supported by the Dubai government.
Also, he said, the NPP government is going to build Iron and steel companies to be contracted to Toyota and Sino track companies, and the industry is expected to begin the production of vehicles next year.
