President Akufo-Addo’s about-turn proclamation that he will never legalize same sex marriage in Ghana has drawn a challenge from the Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George Nettey, who is calling the President’s vow a blast of hot air.
Hon. Nettey has invited Mr. Akufo-Addo to prove his words with action if he really means them.
“If the President does not support homosexuality, we must see action from him this week,” he told Joy FM.
He wants Akufo-Addo to withdraw the letters of credence of the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, and that of the Danish Ambassador as well.
These two, together with other diplomats, had graced a ceremony to officially open an office for the LGBTQI+ in Ghana. This is the same office that National Security has shut down after public outcry.
“…As far as I am concerned, their letters of credence must be withdrawn. Going to support a group whose activities are illegal in Ghana is the biggest affront to our sovereignty,” he said.
“Could the Australian Ambassador or a Danish Ambassador, if their letters of credence had come from the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, would they have attended?” Sam George is quoted as asking.
His dare follows the President’s about-turn from his earlier promise in 2018 of Qatari cable network, Aljazeera, that if gay activism is ramped up in Ghana they would achieve a lot of mileage.
The President had also said some years ago that the legalization of homosexuality and lesbianism is something that is bound to happen in Ghana.
