Gov’t Coronavirus Preparedness Scam Exposed -Suspected Case exposes Korle-Bu Doctors to Risk

The latest Coronavirus scare has exposed the government’s claim that it was prepared fully to tackle any possible incident. As it turns out several terrified Korle-Bu Doctors have initiated self-quarantine measures after the government systems failed on Thursday.

Reports say the latest suspected coronavirusCovid-19 patient, an unnamed woman who arrived from New Jersey in the United States checked into Korle-Bu with almost all the symptoms of Covid-19 evident in her diagnoses.

This reportedly sent shivers through the doctors who handled her. The Doctors reportedly started calling the Ministry of Health’s announced emergency lines for hours without any response on Thursday evening when the suspected patient reported to the premier Teaching Hospital.

According to a Joy News report today, the now-hysterical doctors at Korle-Bu then tried to call the purported team of experts the government claims it has put together to tackle any possible incidence of the coronavirus in Ghana. Unfortunately, the team also appeared to be in hibernations as there was no response from them either.

Eventually, Korle-Bu was told that it was not possible to test the patient’s blood on Thursday because there was no proper transportation mode from Korle-Bu to accredited testing labs.

“A lot of the doctors who have been exposed now are self-isolating. A few of the doctors who have gone home have locked themselves up in self-quarantine, unable to interact with their families. Some doctors are self-quarantining themselves in their own cars,” the Joy News report said.

Doctors explain that the suspected case may have been able to slip through the thermal scanners at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) because a potential coronavirus patient who may be on pain medications may have their temperature suppressed and therefore the thermal scanners would not be able to pick them out.

A few hours ago before Whatsup News went to press, the Management of Korle-Bu issued a damage-control statement suggesting everything was okay.

“Other laboratory investigations suggested a bacterial infection. And she was started on antibiotics. A sample was taken from her yesterday and sent to Noguchi Memorial Institute for test for COVID-19,” read the Korle-Bu statement signed by its Head of Public Relations, Mustapha Salifu.

However, reports claim the blood samples were only able to be sent to Noguchi today, Friday, March 6, 2020. This is a full day after panicking doctors at Korle-Bu had sought an emergency response for testing.

It is currently difficult to track the exact number of people the unnamed patient may have had contact with since arriving Ghana. It is also unclear exactly when she arrived Ghana.

At the moment, the patient has been isolated at the 6th floor of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, the latest reports picked up by Whatsup News indicates that the Noguchi Institute says the test from the suspected case has returned negative.

This is the second such case at Korle-Bu and over a dozen more in the past couple of weeks which have all turned negative.

Some critics are beginning to doubt these negative tests, as almost no sub-Saharan African country has tested a positive case.
