‘We Are Going To Make NPP Squeal’ – Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa has indicated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority in Parliament is going to make Parliament hellish for the Akufo-Addo government.

Many controversial deals that the NPP government has already tabled will not be allowed to pass, he has said, adding that scandalous deals in the likes of some that were passed by the 7th Parliament which was dominated by the NPP will also not be countenanced.

“This obviously would not be the Parliament where deals such as Agyapa, Ameri, PDS, Oslo Chancery and others can be presented with cheeky ease,” he said.

Already the mother party has directed its Parliamentarians to ensure that the Agyapa mineral royalties deal for instance does not pass at all.

The deal entails the conversion of Ghana’s mineral royalty receipts into a Special Purpose Vehicle with which to borrow some USD1billion. The deal which was shrouded in secrecy has since led to resigned Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, declaring President Akufo-Addo as the “mother serpent of corruption”.

After a corruption risk assessment of the deal, Amidu had concluded that it was indeed been stewed in self-dealing, money laundering and the criminal breach of due process by Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

However, in spite of all the findings, President Akufo-Addo had returned it to Parliament for passage. An outpouring of criticism however forced the government to hold on with its passage in the hopes that the NPP would win both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections of 2020.

Meanwhile, the NPP has lost Parliament by a thin margin with the declaration of Akufo-Addo as President also in contention.
