Nordic NDC Mourns Rawlings

Branches of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Denmark, Finland and Norway, are mourning the passing of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

In a statement, the NDC-Nordic Chapter expressed shock at the suddenness of the death of the First President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic and the second most historic figure in the entirety of Ghana’s politics.

“It was with great shock to NDC-Nordic Chapter and Ghanaians as a whole living in the Nordic region of Europe to learn of the sudden death of Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, the founder of our great party NDC and the first president of the 4th Republic of Ghana on Thursday morning (November 12th) at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness,” the external chapters of the opposition NDC stated.

The statement was signed by the Chairman of the Chapter, Patrick Osei-Gyimah. Mr. Gyimah expressed condolences on behalf of the Chapter. 

“Former President Rawlings is one of the greatest Ghanaian who served his country with honour and discipline during some of the darkest and most difficult periods of the history of our dear nation Ghana. His guiding principle of probity and accountability followed him throughout his long service to his nation and will always be remembered by generations to come. His dedication to his country and party immortalizes him forever in our hearts May the outpouring of love he has received since his passing serve as a reminder to his family and the nation of how much he was loved by all Ghanaians.”
