WAEC Arrest 11 Over Leaked Math Paper

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) says that eleven (11) suspects have been arrested in connection with the leakage of a Mathematics examination paper that was written yesterday.

Rev. Victor Brew, Head of Legal Affairs at WAEC, is reported as saying that the arrestees have been handed over to the Police to help with investigations.

“Now, with the issue of leakage, we have gone ahead and reported these allegations and also handed them over to the security agencies, specifically National Security and BNI,” he said.

“Some of the persons have been apprehended to assist with investigations into these issues of snapping of question papers after the exams have begun yesterday, we had eight persons rounded up in Accra, three were also picked up in Obuasi and handed over to the police.”

The Math paper had been scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2020,  However, a few minutes before the exams would start, the paper leaked online with pictures of the questions going viral.

The leakage was in spite of WAEC’s earlier assurances that this year’s edition of the examination question papers have had been shackled with tight security.

A total of 531,705 candidates were billed to sit the exam at 2,007 examination centres across the country.

The exams ended today, Friday, September 18th
