New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives in the Akuapem North are asking an Accra High Court to restrain the mother party from presenting the party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency to the Electoral Commission.
The Polling Station Executives argue that incumbent MP, Ama Dokuah Asiamah, was not properly elected as Parliamentary Candidate (PC) and that her purported naming as PC contravenes the party’s constituency.
Stephen Asare Darko, who leads the executives point out that the process of her naming ought to have been through an extraordinary delegate conference and not through what he calls a dubious acclamation.
“430 of the delegates, we push for this agenda to find out why they were disqualified by the party executives. We have taken a petition to the party office. Unfortunately, nobody has written to us or replied us,” Mr. Darko fired.
“And then, this people, that is the Constituency and Regional Executives, snaked to Akropong to do an acclamation quietly in somebody’s home that was around 6 am in the morning. It took about 35 of our members to do this acclamation,” he told the media.
According to him, because of the dubious nature of acclamation, the people behind it could not even take the supposed PC round to officially introduce to the party’s delegates.
