Whatsup News can confirm that the Akufo Addo administration has pulled the brakes on the free bus service provided to frontline health workers in the fight against the deadly Covid-19 coronavirus.
Whatsup News has intercepted an internal memo from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where hospital administration has expressed serious worries about the withdrawal of the Rapid Bus Transit service (Adehyee) which was directly authorised by President Akufo Addo for health workers on the frontline.
“It has come to the notice of Management that, the Bus Rapid Transit Services (Adehyee) that was put at the disposal of Health Workers His Excellency, NanaAddo Danquah Akufo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana will cease operations from tomorrow Friday, 24th April 2020,” the memo dated April 23, 2020 from the Director of Administration of KATH read.
KATH has therefore been forced to rely on its own unreliable transportation mode to shuttle its health workers as they battle Covid-19 in the Ashanti Region.
“Management is monitoring the situation and wishes to assure our cherished staff that, in the event of the withdrawal of the President’s sponsored buses, every effort would be made to ensure that KATH bus services resume on Monday, 27th April 2020,” the memo concludes.
No official explanation has so far been issued on why the health workers in the Ashanti Region have been left in the cold without an effective transportation system.
