Ghanaian Professional Herbal Practitioners Promise Covid-19 Treatment.

The Ghana Associations of Medical Herbalists (GAMH) has announced that samples of herbal remedies have been sent to research centres in the country to authenticate claims that they can treat the dreaded Covid-19 disease.

This announcement is coming in the heels of the official approval of a local herbal remedy in Madagascar to treat Covid-19. The announcement of Covid-Organics as a treatment was made this week by Malagasy President Andry Rajoelina.

’As I speak, some members of our association have already sent samples of herbal medicine to the requisite bodies pending research and approval as the cure for coronavirus’,’ The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of GAMH, Prince Osei told Accra-based Happy FM.

According to the GAMH spokesperson, there already exist in Ghana several herbal immune boosters that can be used in the fight against coronavirus while waiting for a cure.
One of such local herbal remedies, Coaf Fs has already had a brush with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in a suspected Sabotage. The FDA claims it found contamination in batches of Coaf Fs, but the producer of the local remedy has debunked FDA’s allegations, saying independent tests have shown no contaminations in the product.

According to Prince Osei, well-researched herbal remedies hold the key to treating Covid-19 and not conventional medicine such as the widely-touted Hydrochloroquine.

‘’ Hydrochloroquine and azithromycin that are being used to treat coronavirus are only treating symptoms. If you have a headache or cough, that is what will be treated. If you look at recovered cases currently, you will see that immunity is key so I urge the government to really look at the registered immune boosters produced in Ghana as part of managing coronavirus cases here in Ghana’’, said Prince Osei.

“In Africa, Ghana’s herbal medicine is trusted, so why can’t government look at herbal medicine as a credible alternative’’, he said in what reflects a general sense of betrayal within GAMH in the way the Ghanaian government has totally overlooked their potential contribution to the race against Covid-19.
