Finance Minister’s Insurance Company Smells Up In COVID-19 Insurance Cover

The omnipresence of Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s private companies in almost every juicy contract award by the Akufo-Addo government appears not to have changed as his insurance company-Enterprise Insurance is reportedly involved in the GHC 100 million insurance cover the government is giving to frontline health workers.

WhatsUp News has learnt from reports that Enterprise is the main insurance company which has received the contract to give cover to the 10,000 frontline health professionals fighting COVID-19 coronavirus.

If confirmed, Enterprise would receive will allegedly  receive some GHC 5 million in charges and fees for providing this insurance cover.

Critics are issuing queries whether the company involved in this COVID-19 deal was subjected to standard tender processes.

Speculations exploded when Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, announced over the weekend that Government has put together an insurance package for health workers in the frontline of the battle against coronavirus.

As Mr. Ofori-Atta is the Finance Minister, if it is indeed true that Enterprise Insurance got the contract that would add another laurel to the mounting allegations of conflict of interest against the Finance Minister.

Enterprise Insurance was incidentally, the main insurance company that underwrote Ghana’s recent US$ 3 billion Eurobond, and has been involved in similar mega government deals in the past, since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, assumed power.

The Akufo-Addo Government has been slammed several times on countless occasions for its nepotistic predisposition.
