Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu has disclosed that 31 people receiving treatment in Ghana for the deadly Coronavirus have recovered, bringing the number of active infections in Ghana to 130 after Ghana today recorded its 161st COVID-19 patient.
In an update, the Health Minister said those recoveries have been verified by laboratory testing.
“The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research tested 17 samples from the Upper East (3), North East (3) and Ashanti (11) regions all of which were Negative.
“No new test results have been received from Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research since the last update.”
This updates Ghana’s statistics to 161 infections, 5 deaths and 33 recoveries.
The recoveries do not mean that these convalescents are going home. The Minister explains that they will be put under observation in isolation for one more month and routinely tested to see if the infection returns.
Ghana’s COVID-19 statistics is among the fastest rising in Africa since the first cases were recorded approximately three weeks ago.
Globally, more than 37,000 people have died from COVID-19, while over 780,000 infections have been confirmed in at least 178 countries and territories.
More than 166,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus.
Ghana is currently under a partial lockdown in Government’s attempt to tame the spread of infections. In the period, the Health Service is also embarking on an aggressive testing campaign to fish out and isolate asymptomatic people with infections.
