Ghana Police Confirms Service Gun Used In Sagakope Assemblyman Murder

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has confirmed that indeed, service guns from the Sogakope Police command were used in last weekend’s gruesome murder of the Assemblyman for South Sogakope, Marcus Adzahli.

The guns were reportedly smuggled out of the police station a few hours before the murder by police accomplices.

An official statement from the Public Relations section of the Volta Regional Police department stated: “On 07/03/2020 (the day of the murder) at about 4:30am , the station officer c/inspr. Frank Tsigbey visited the charge office and he was informed by the station orderly no.54958 g/const. Charles Yeboah that at about 3:30am he could not set eyes on s/v rifle no. ghgp/vr/sk/az 5426-12 which was loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition with extra 9 rounds kept in a container locked at the counter.”

Apparently, suspecting foul play, the officer in charge of the police station allegedly interrogated two remand prisoners Charles  Awuye and Ransford Gbeve who were sleeping in the cells close to compartment in which the guns were stowed away.

It appears as though the police accomplice may have been one Corporal Osei Sarfo at the Sogakope police station because the statement read “…they [the remand prisoners] gave description of no. 52041 g/l/cpl Osei Sarfo as the person they saw behind the  counter in uniform at about 1:00am…a team led by the acting district commander, c/supt. joseph Atsu Dzineku to the residence of the lance corporal all the places he took including  his barracks at agave Asidowui were searched but nothing evidencial was discovered. However, identification parade conducted in the station officer’s  office, comprising eight other persons and no. 52041 g/l/cpl Osei Sarfo was identified by the two inmates as the one they saw at the counter.”

So far, two police officers have been picked up as persons of interest in the dawn murder.

Early last Sunday, the deceased popular Assemblyman was shot several times at point-blank range in in what has been described as a typical execution.

Whatsup News gathered from eye-witnesses that about eight (8) masked and armed men laid siege and broke into the deceased residence, around 1:00am, using cement blocks to breakthrough his bulletproof and burglary proof doors.

The assailants reportedly gained access to the house and shot the deceased.

His neighbours were reportedly woken up by the loud gunshots. The deceased’s wife was also injured and is currently in emergency care at the Sogakope District Hospital

The cause of the assault is not immediately clear as two conflicting accounts pop up.
