Ghana builds infrastructure for ECOWAS Power pool project

Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the Energy Commission, Kofi Adu Agyarko, has said that Ghana is building its infrastructure as part of the ECOWAS power pool project.

He explained the project, energy interconnection, provides an opportunity for ECOWAS member countries to trade among themselves at less cost.

“That is one of the ways by which we can pool our resources together to light up the West African sub-region and that is good for economic growth that is good for human development and that is good for our very existence as human beings,” he told journalists on Tuesday.

He further explained that the power pool project is based on comparative advantage, that is, an economy’s ability to produce at a lower opportunity cost than that of trade partners.

Mr Adu Agyarko said: “Some countries can generate it cheaper than others so that is the advantage that is going to bestow on all of us.

“So you buy form where it is cheaper and you can also sell it at where you can get a profit and altogether the business will be booming.”

Ghana is building its infrastructure for the power pool. We have done quite a lot, the system is ongoing.

“Some are even being upgraded to be able to contain the load. Every country is doing its own infrastructure and some development partners also come in to assist in the infrastructural development that will help tie in the various grades systems.”
