Policeman, Ringleader Of Armed Robbers In Upper East Arrested

A rogue cop who allegedly led a gang of armed robbers in the Upper East Region to terrorize travelers has been arrested by the Police.

Lance Corporal Ndebugri Asaah, of the Chiana Police in the Kasena-Nankana West District was tracked down by his colleagues and nabbed after a Friday night robbery operation ended poorly.

In the misadventure, he is said to have led seven accomplices to rob travelers on the Bolga-Navrongo road at gun point. Victims of the Friday night robbery were said to have been violently dispossessed of monies and other belongings near the Notre Damme Senior High School.

However, this robbery operation was to end a misadventure for the officer when a Police night patrol team arrived at the scene of the crime and the perpetrators had to scurry into the bush. L/Cpl Asaah happened to have had the misfortune of riding on a duty motor bike at the time and therefore had to leave the bushes briefly and speed away.

After the patrol team members had received the complaints from the victims, they sped towards the direction of the rogue officer who is said to have snatched the monies and other items and passed them on to his gang members.

He was eventually tracked down and arrested. Immediate circumstantial evidence that bore out against him included the fact that his clothes were very dirty with shrubs of dry leaves and grass sticking around his cap; a suggestion that those things collected on him when he took cover in the bush upon the approach of the patrol team at the robbery scene.

Upon interrogation and searches, it was found that he was the bearer of Police service number 48430. Lance Corporal Ndebugre Asaah was supposed to be stationed at Chiana and at post on snap check barrier duties at Navrongo, a post nowhere near the scene of his arrest.

He has since claimed that he was also a victim of the robbery but the Police are treating him as a suspect.
