I don’t Care If You Remove Me Like Charlotte Osei; I Will Go And Farm …Auditor General to NPP Gov’t

Auditor General, Daniel Yao Domelevo, is telling hawks within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) clamoring for his removal over his fight against corruption in the Akufo-Addo Government that he does not care if his fight leads to his sack.

Addressing his colleagues at the third regional Auditors biannual conference in Ho, Volta Region, he informed his detractors that he has a backup plan to go into farming if he is removed and therefore nothing will deter him from fighting corruption.

“I’ve said it several times, people say we’ll remove him like how they removed Charlotte Osei, I say who say I care? I don’t care! So if today I’m told that I’ve been removed, that is it, life doesn’t end here. I tell my children they shouldn’t worry; at worst my father has a lot of farmland, I will go and farm and feed the family.”

The reply was a response from a vintage Domelevo who has refused to be cowed away from taking on suspected corrupt deals by bigwig government people like Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo, who is smelling with suspicion over the questionable payment of a whopping US$1million to UK consultancy firm Kroll Associates.

Osafo Maafo, acting together with Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, had paid Kroll for supposedly recovering government assets from identifiable people. However, Mr. Domelevo has observed that Kroll did no work to deserve the money and has therefore surcharged the Senior Minister.

Mr. Osafo Maafo has since gone to court claiming the AG made a mistake in surcharging him. For many in the ruling party, Mr. Domelevo’s confrontation of the Senior Minister is an act of war as Osafo Maafo is a virtual sacred cow in the NPP.

These are the people, who the Auditor Genera says, have been threatening to make the President fire him but he does not care.

Mr. Domelevo, just this week, incurred the anger of the Deputy Minister of Agric, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, after a special audit he conducted at the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) revealed that, scholarships awarded by the Fund are scrambled by well to do people including the Deputy Minister, instead of brilliant but needy students.

The embarrassing revelation exposed Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Deputy Majority Leader, Sara Adwoa Safo, as suchlike greedy people.

Since then, the AG has come under attacks with the Deputy Agric Minister demanding an apology but Mr. Domelevo has refused to apologize.

Meanwhile, addressing the auditors, he urged them to be fearless and fight corruption saying that such a fight will incur them hate just like Jesus Christ did speaking the truth.

“…Jesus Christ…many times when I think about him I feel happy because I’m like this is somebody who goes and heels when we should be clapping for him, they are rather accusing him. He does good and people are attacking him so that is what it should be for auditors. If we come to Volta Region and they are praising you so much you are a bad auditor. So we’ll continue doing our work and I’ll like to say you need courage to discharge our work.

“Be courageous, nobody will kill you. The only thing that might happen is that you’ll lose your job but it’s not the end of life you may be transferred that’s not the end of life.”
