Fire Razes Down 12 Bedroom House At Obuasi

A 12 bedroom house at Amangoase, a suburb of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, has been reduced to char after it caught fire today.

The fire, whose cause is not known licked everything in its path so that none of the inhabitants of the house could salvage any of their properties.

Daniyalu Mohammed, one of the victims who had returned from abroad just the previous had a cash amount of Us$5,000 burn to ashes together with his passport and other personal effects.

Reportedly, inhabitants are said to have been prompted about the fire by a cortege of mourners while they were fast asleep in the building. They managed to escape but did not have the luxury of time to salvage their properties.

Meanwhile, delay in putting out the fire has been blamed for the inability to salvage properties. The Obuasi office of the Ghana National Fire Service is said to have lamented that its tenders are not functional.

It took a collaborative effort by AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) and Fomena Fire Service to eventually put out the fire. Even so, it is reported that their efforts were hampered by the fact there was no easy access to the building.
