“Octopus Gabby’s” Twitter Storm on Corruption Checkmated

An attempt by President Akufo Addo’s infamous nephew Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko to highlight issues raised on Monday by President Akufo Addo about corruption has been shot down massively by followers on Twitter.

Mr. Otchere-Darko who has been fingered in several alleged corrupt deals within the Akufo Addo administration wrote on his twitter handle on Monday, September 9, 2019: “Perception is everything. The President said today that 21 officials of the NDC are on trial on corruption cases. The total amount involved is GHC 772 million. More cases, he said, are likely to follow. But it is like nobody is on trial!”

However, immediately the post hit twitter, his countless followers went for his jugular. “Perception is also everything when you try and create an illusion that only people from the NDC are corrupt. Put the NYA boss, the Sports minister on trial. Swing your corruption axe both ways,” one critic wrote.

Another wrote: “Was he [President Akufo Addo] elected to only come and prosecute past government appointees? He should remove the log right under his eye before pointing fingers at others….”

Mr. Otchere-Darko who is known as a close confidant of the President in his kitchen cabinet is receiving this massive bashing because Gabby’s name has popped up in one of Ghana’s biggest scandal involving a fraudulent US$ 490 million contract given the Power Distribution Services (PDS) to manage the Electricity Company of Ghana.

Gabby is also being referred to as “Thriller in Manilla” following a reported WhatsApp group he created to include all the players in the PDS scandal and how they were scheming to dupe the country of one of its biggest public assets.
