Three male and two female passengers on board a Benz Sprinter bus died on the spot when the vehicle somersaulted and landed into a ditch at Obretema in the Suhum Municipality.
Many other passengers who sustained various degrees of injury have been rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital with many fearing the casualty numbers could rise.
The commercial passenger vehicle with registration number GW 7444-21 was headed to Accra from Kumasi the Ashanti regional capital when the accident occurred at around 2:20 Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle, Eric Ohemang (35 years) claims that upon reaching the scene of the accident, his offside rear tire had suddenly burst, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
After he let the steer go, the car keeled and somersaulted killing five on the spot and injuring many of his passengers.
