‘Useless’ Appointees Will Take NPP to Opposition …Constituency Chairman

The New Patriotic Party’s Constituency Chairman for Suame, Richard Asante, has warned that the NPP risks going back to opposition if appointees of President Akufo-Addo do not stop a trend of selfishness and lack of respect for the party’s base.

In a tirade on radio, he accused appointees of abandoning members and favoring non-party members when there are spoils of power to share.

Consequently, job openings in government are not given to party boys but strangers and this will cost the party dearly because next elections no monkey will work for no baboon to enjoy.

‘‘Currently, NIA is recruiting people for various positions including regional and district registration officers with no preferential treatment for members of the party who toiled for the victory of the party” Mr Asante said.

“The appointees, must bear in mind, that not everybody campaigned and voted for the party to retain power therefore, party members and executives should be treated preferentially to motivate them,” he added.

He said it was pitiful to see party thoroughbreds struggling for jobs and other things with non-party people who did nothing to help the party come to power.

According to him, the “disrespect” is building up disenchantment among party people and this will cost the NPP dearly if the party does not nip it in the bud.

Mr. Asante’s warning echoes an earlier one that MP for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong also gave.

As for Mr. Agyapong, he has even warned that Joe Anokye, the head of the National Communications Authority, will be dealt with severely if he does not stop disrespecting party members.
