New TUC To Fight For Lifetime Medicare For Pensioners and Spouses

Newly Elected 1st Vice Chairman of The Trade Union’s Congress, (TUC), Ken Tweneboah Koduah has set his eyes on pushing for lifetime Medical insurance for pensioners and their spouses to cushion post retirement burdens for workers.

Speaking prior to his election as the youngest person ever to serve on the Executive Council of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) after he was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Council at the 11th Quadrennial Delegates Congress of the TUC held at Ejusu, Ashanti Region this weekend, Ken Tweneboa-Koduah said the tenure of the new TUC leadership will enhance opportunities for labour and unions.

Tweneboah –Kodua is the youngest member yet as Vice-Chairperson of the TUC’s Executive Council.

Ken Tweneboa-Koduah pooled 274 votes (72% of total votes cast) to emerge the 1st Vice Chairman of the mother of all Trade Unions (The TUC) to beat his opponent who had 93 votes.

Despite his young age, the new Vice-Chairperson will not be coming to the TUC Executive Council as a neophyte; He is experienced in union activism, as he stood for elections onto the TUC Council while serving as the Chairman of the Public Service Workers Union (PSWU) of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Other active positions that he has served in within the frontiers of Union activities include, as the Board Chairperson of Public Service Union Center – PSUC; a Former 1st National Trustee and Finance Committee Chairperson of PSWU; and Divisional Secretary of Ghana Revenue Authority (PSWU).

The rest of the five members elected to the Executive Council are as follows: Chairperson- Alex Opoku of UNICOF and the Ghana Commercial Bank, 2nd Vice Chairperson- Philomina Aba Sampson of GMWU and Administrative Executive of Precious Minerals marketing PMMC (Elected unopposed), Secretary General-Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, former Secretary-General (elected unopposed) and Deputy Secretary General-Bro. Joshua Ansah, a former Deputy Secretary-General.

The Quadrennial Congress was made up of over 430 participants including 340 delegates presented by all the 19 mother unions of the TUC. 

Together, these Unions meet every 4 years at Congress to among other things also elected the 5 member Executive Council ( EC) to lead, manage and represent the TUC and its members on labour issues both in Ghana and on the International Labour Organization (ILO) structures which includes;
