Bawumia Forced To Denounce 2024 Ambition. -As NPP’s Seething In-Fighting For Successor Rages

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been forced to deny interest in being the successor of President Akufo Addo in the 2024 presidential race as supporters pitch him against other viable candidates.

Whatsup News has seen expensive diaries and paraphernalia reportedly linked to the Vice President’s office as he is alleged to be planning to ‘Break the 8’, a campaign indicating that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is planning to win the 2024 elections to break the jinx of the conventional eight-year terms for ruling political parties in Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia’s presidential posters had quickly gone public shortly afterward.

But today, March 24, 2021, the Vice President’s office released a statement distancing him from the subtle campaigns being whipped up for his alleged presidential ambition.

In the statement, Dr. Bawumia stated that his focus is helping President Akufo-Addo execute his transformation agenda and not focusing on the 2024 presidential ticket.

“The Office of the Vice President has taken notice of the proliferation of posters around the country apparently promoting H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the candidate of the NPP for the 2024 elections,” he stated.

“For the record, the Vice President has not given his consent to these and other associated activities. The Vice President remains focused on assisting His Excellency the President in the execution of his agenda to transform Ghana. This is where everybody’s focus should be.”

Meanwhile, another camp within the NPP is also pushing Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremanteng, the long-time rival of President Akufo Addo on the presidential ticket of the NPP as the rightful heir to the NPP leadership.

Alan Kyeremanteng is known to be a protégé of the “Kufour Camp” in the NPP-a a rival power bloc to the “Akyem bloc” headed now by President Akufo Addo.

The Kufuor camp is allegedly determined to shift the balance of power in the ruling party from the Akyem hegemony. This will consequently kill the Bawumia card, Whatsup News can report.

Meanwhile, others are reportedly lacing their boots to snatch the mantle, including the former Railways Minister, Joe Ghartey and the current Agric Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
