Rawlings’ Body Lays In State At Conference Center

The body of the late strongman and former President Jerry John Rawlings has been lying in repose at the International Conference Center in Accra.

Filing past the body started at 9 am today January 25, 2021, and continued till 2 pm, affording members of the general public and invited dignitaries to pay their last respects to the initiator of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

President Akufo-Addo and vice president Bawumia, along with their respective spouses, high-ranking members of the judiciary and the legislature will also take their turn tomorrow, the 26th of January.

Mr. Rawlings passed on at the Korle-Bu teaching hospital on November 12, 2020.

On Sunday, January 24, a vigil was held at the Armed Forces mess in Accra. It was graced by his family, including his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and his 4 children.

Meanwhile, his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced it is holding a virtual symposium in his honor.

The symposium which is to celebrate his life and commemorate his legacy is being held at the Kama Conference Center in Labone, Accra, starting at 6:30 pm today.

Speakers include former President John Mahama, who is the current leader of the party, Dr. Ben Kumbuor, former Minister of Defense, Mr. Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament and Leader of the NDC Caucus in Parliament, Haruna Iddrissu.
