Bawumia beefs up war chest ahead of tussle for Akufo Addo Successor

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumiah is reportedly preparing for a showdown with any of the top contenders in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who may be nursing an ambition to become successors to President Akufo Addo after he would have served his last term by 2024.
Dr. Bawumia is reported to have set up an ultra-modern campaign office in Cantonment and has succeeded in poaching Fred Oware, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Dam Authority to handle his post-2024 presidential ambition in what is set to send ripples through the NPP where many interests are already lining up to step in the shoes of President Akufo Addo upon his exit.
The old-time rival of President Akufo Addo, Alan Kyeremanteng, the Minister of Trade is reportedly eyeing to be the next in line after Akufo Addo. Recently, supporters of Mr. Kyeremanteng test-drove what appears to be the brewing beef between him and Bawumia, a clear favorite of Akufo Addo.

Meanwhile, others are waiting in the wings, names like Joe Ghartey , immediate-past Railway Minster and former Attorney-General and Boakye Agyarko, former Energy Minister have popped up.
However, it appears President Akuffo Addo is already preparing a soft landing for Dr. Bawumia, as Whatsup News gathered that one of the reasons why President Akufo Addo retain Ambrose Dery as the Interior Minister is to help champion the Akufo Addo-Bawumia succession plan.
Party Insiders say the combination of Ambrose Dery and Abdulai Bawumiah (Brother of the Vice President) at the Ministry of Interior over the last Four Years was Strategic and Tactical.
It is however unclear how the Akufo Addo camp will pull off the stunt of pushing Bawumia as a successor, being a northerner who will have to contend with the other powerful camp within the ruling party: The Kufuor camp of former President John Agyekum Kufour.
Mr. Kyeremanteng and a few others are reportedly being propped up to snatch the cookie off Bawumia.

Generally, the tussle within the NPP will provide an important opening for John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to offset the cart for the NPP, political observers have told Whatsup News.
Already, John Mahama who contested the 2020 elections with the incumbent President Akufo Addo, has refused to concede defeat, saying he believed he won the elections or at least, the winner declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) did not cross the mandatory 50% plus one mark of total valid votes cast during the presidential elections.
John Mahama is currently in the Supreme Court with an election petition, asking for a re-run of the 2020 election, based on what the NDC called rigging by the EC.
