“Family & Friends” Airport Capture (Part 2) MCDAN Collapsing Ghana Airport, ADB With Gargantuan Debt.

Investigations by Whatsup News reveals that Dr. Daniel McKorley who owns the popular McDan Shipping Company has been used as a conduit to cripple the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) and the state-owned ADB Bank in debts totalling GHC 18 million.

In 2017, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, approved a GHC10 million loan facility from Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) for MCDAN Shipping to reportedly enable the company to execute a contract at COCOBOD. The money appears to be free money because, to date, all attempts by the bank to retrieve its money have fallen on deaf ears, insiders tell Whatsup News.

Similarly, McDan Aviation, owned by Dr. McKorley reportedly owes the GACL some GHC 8.7 million for several years in rent and fees.

McDan Aviation operates a Fixed Base Operator (FBO) at Kotoka International Airport’s (KIA)’s Terminal 1 and had leased most parts of the airport from the GACL. Again, it appears the highly-connected businessman is making free money from the state facility as investigations show that he owes rent totaling GHC2,130,798.67; Concession Fee of GHC 3, 889,816.7 and Premium For Freight Forwarders Office at GHC 2,116,640.63.

Other debt includes the non-payment of some GHC 360,000 on Logistics Centre/Warehouse at the Counter enclave and Land allocation at Spintex GHC: 168,850.00.

When Whatsup News contacted Dr. McKorley about the giant-sized outstanding debt, he simply said the report is not true, and that Whatsup News should “investigate well”.

“Please it’s not true. Investigate well. I’m just a tenant there and paying rent? When will we learn to appreciate our own?” He queried

He later went on to play the victim, saying “Do you think if it’s a foreigner renting that terminal all this will go on? When will we get the opportunity to control our own country? I have worked at the airport for 30yrs. I started as a messenger,” he lamented to Whatsup News.

Whatsup News gathered that McDan is able to get away with all these blatant bleeding of state resources because of his close business relationship with President Akufo Addo and his lieutenants like Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko at the Jubilee House.

His close friendship with the President’s Cousin, Otchere-Darko is reportedly the reason why he was appointed the Board Chairman of the Ghana Trade Fair company which is headed by Dr. Agnes Adu an intimate friend of Mr. Otchere-Darko.

Whatsup News gathered from sources that Gabby had once told McDan jokingly that he [McDan] “will be a fool not to capture Ghana Cocoa Board”.

McDan is reportedly being used by the Jubilee House to front for some of their private businesses.

MCDAN claimed to have joined the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and heavily financed their 2016 campaign and his private security company AFWEST, was used by the party to bring South African mercenaries to train NPP vigilante groups during the 2016 elections.

MCDAN told friends that, he contributed so much money to the NPP campaign that, at some point “my wife did not have any more suitcases in our house, because anytime we sent money in a suitcase to ken Ofori Atta’s house, it didn’t come back”.

MCDAN also told a source that his decision to support the NPP was because then-President John Dramani Mahama had refused to allocate to him some extra land he was seeking at the airport. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, under President Mills, is said to have allocated airport lands to MCDAN.
