Parliament has summoned the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah, and the Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, for an update on preparations for the December 7 elections.
Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, told the House today that the EC will appear tomorrow.
“Mr Speaker, the EC is in the process of readjusting their programme for tomorrow [Thursday] so possibly we shall see all the major stakeholders come to the house tomorrow to brief us.”
It is not clear when the National Security Minister will appear. The Majority Leader also said the leadership of the National Media Commission and the National Commission on Civic Education will also appear before the House to update MPs on voter education programs.
The request for the summons had been made by Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, last week.
Hon. Iddrisu has said that he also wants the Interior Ministry to appear before the House for updates on preparations.
He added that MPs would want the Police to furnish them with a list of Police personnel to be deployed for the elections.
“We want the Interior Minister to support the National Security Minister and this time the IGP must be in attendance because we ought to understand the security detail on Election Day very well,” he stated.
Ghana goes to the polls on 7th December to elect MPs and a new President for the Republic.
