Deputy Health Minister Takes Double Salary As Consultant For LEKMA Hospital

Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye has a second job as a consultant for the Ledzokuku/Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) Hospital in Accra in total breach of his role as a minister overseeing the same facility, WhatsUp News has gathered 

Consequently, the Deputy Minister, in theory, divides his time between the duties that come with his portfolio in the Akufo-Addo government’s ministerial organogram, and his consultancy duties with LEKMA Hospital.

In Ghana, such a setup is called “double-salary,” and usually, the phrase has a duplicitous connotation to it.

According to sources, Dr. Okoe Boye was a Consultant before he was appointed Deputy Minister by President Akufo-Addo. Under normal circumstance, he is supposed to have resigned his position as Consultant before picking up the new job as Deputy Health Minister. 

According to sources, he never resigned as Consultant to LEKMA Hospital, and therefore Dr. Okoe Boye receives double salary from the government.

WhatsUp News has attempted to get through to the Deputy Minister for an explanation as to why he allegedly receives double salary from the government, but he has not been available.
