The Bono East Constituency branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remove armed party thugs that it has deployed to the strongholds of the NDC in the region.
In a statement, the NDC’s Bono East Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, Bilal Muazu Sulemana, the NDC said the opposition party is law abiding but that if they are pushed to the wall, they may be left with no choice but to fight back.
“In the attempt to destabilize the peace enjoyed by the good people of Bono East Region, the NPP has since the start of the registration exercise deployed armed party thugs to the strongholds of the NDC to cause mayhem at the registration centres.”
“We the youth in the NDC are law-abiding citizens and believes in the Rule of Law. We have all possible means to retaliate the violence unleashed by these hoodlums but we deem it appropriate to respect the laws of the land. We respect the security officials and as such, they must do the needful in promoting peace and security in the region,” the statement said, alleging that the NPP has been bussing people into the NDC strongholds to register in an agenda to increase NPP votes in the election.
In addition to this, it said that the NPP has also resorted to bussing people out of the stronghold of the NDC in the Region.
“The NPP for fear of losing the 2020 elections has resorted to bussing people from the Ashanti Region(Kumasi) and Bono Region(Wenchi) to Techiman South, Kintampo South and Pru West to increase the vote of the NPP. Four people have been arrested in Techiman whom they claim to be from Wenchi and are now in the custody of the police over the alleged busing of people,” the NDC alleged.
“We are aware that the police had information about a bus with registration number AS-1329-19 conveying people from the Ashanti Region to the Techiman South constituency for the purposes of registration. In line with this information, the Constituency Youth Organizer for Techiman South was mercilessly assaulted with his car vandalised upon trying to disclose this wicked plot to the police. Some people are also bused into the Region and are currently hiding in hotels.”
