The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is demanding from the Electoral Commission (EC) details of its training programs to train staff for the forthcoming conduct of the 2020 elections.
A letter requesting the details specifically demanded training manuals for the EC’s registration officials and training manuals that the EC has put together for agents of political parties in respect of the registration process.
“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has become aware of an ongoing nationwide training exercise being conducted by the Electoral Commission to prepare its staff to be deployed for the conduct of the voter registration prior to the 2020 general elections,” the NDC wrote.
“As a major stakeholder whose agents have important function to perform during the exercise to ensure its credibility, we are by this letter officially requesting the commission to supply the NDC with the above-named documents and any other material that would enable the party prepare our agents adequately for same.”
The letter, dated 18th May was signed by the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
It is not clear if by this letter the NDC is now saying it has become agreeable to the EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register which is something that the NDC has resisted for a long time.
