NUGS President’s Bootlicking For Akufo-Addo Spawns Money-Grabbing Reports.

President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Isaac Jay Hyde, has come under allegations of receiving money from Jubilee House, after what is seen by many as unsolicited bootlicking praise for President Akufo-Addo.

According to the allegation, Mr. Jay Hyde, who had visited the seat of Government together with 16 other student leaders at the invitation of President Akufo-Addo for a briefing on Covid-19 received Ghc5,000 handed to him as transportation for agreeing to attend the briefing.

Whatsup News has contacted Mr. Hyde and he has flatly denied the claim, saying: “As President of NUGS, I know there are people who disagree with me but this is preposterous, to say the least.”

According to him, he and other student leaders who attended the meeting were given “transportation, but it was not Gh5000.”

The Ghc5,000 questionable cash was just part of the allegations that WhatsUp News has received from within the national student leadership. In addition to the money, the student leaders who had attended the Covid-19 briefing were said to have been promised scholarships to do graduate programs abroad.

The student leaders include Samuel Sagoe President of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Paul Abrokwa, President of the University Students Association of Ghana and the International Relations Secretary of the Ghana Union of Professional Students who had been delegated by the Union’s President, Ebenezer Gabson Gakpo.

Mr. Gakpo tells WhatsUp News he did not receive any money and that after the NUGS President had appeared on Pan African television and admitted in an interview that he received money from President Akufo-Addo, he also developed interest to look into the allegation.

The NUGS President had attracted suspicion to himself when he praised President Akufo-Addo to the high havens during the meeting with the students’ leadership.

According to the NUGS President, Mr. Akufo-Addo had become a global icon with the sense of industry and resourcefulness that the President has supposedly exhibited through the fight to contain the Covid-19 attack.
