Corona Chaos Hits Korle Bu ..as Sick Medical Personnel emerges

Nurses and doctors at two departments of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have abandoned patients, after Covid-19 coronavirus infections allegedly got out of hand and escalated to health workers.

After a Doctor and a Nurse at the Departments of Medicine and Child Health tested positive for the virus, some of the nurses refused to turn up for work. This is because the Hospital Administration has kept the identities of the infected doctor and the Nurse a secret.

Even though the hospital says it has since isolated the infected staff and has initiated contact tracing, some Nurses in the same departments stayed away from work protesting the Hospital’s refusal to reveal their identities.

According to WhatsUp News sources, the protesting Nurses are of the view that since  they do not know the infected colleagues, they could run into them at any time and risk contact with them.

It is not clear how this excuse is really justifiable given that the facility says it has isolated the infected staff, however, sources say the protesting Nurses are also unhappy about the inadequate availability of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).

Meanwhile, the Emergency Unit of Korle Bu closed down this morning after Health workers there also refused to go on duty. Similarly, the health workers here have been acting out over fear of coronavirus infections.

They are said to have demanded that each member of the Emergency Unit be tested for Coronavirus after a patient who was rushed there on Friday tested positive for the virus.

This morning, staff of that Unit lined up in front of the Emergency and Accident Department and demanded for testing.
