GTA Orders Hospitality Industry Players To Screen Patrons For Corona Virus

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has ordered all players in the hospitality industry to immediately institute procedures to screen all patrons.

In a meeting that the GTA held with hoteliers, restaurateurs and other industry players, it ordered that among other things, the facilities acquire temperature scan guns for the purpose.

Chief Executive Officer, Akwasi Agyemang, said although the industry has been badly hit by the outbreak of corona virus, his outfit is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that everyone is protected, while efforts are made to mitigate the economic impact.

“Based on the assurances that we have from the Ghana Health Service, especially given the strong statement that the President made yesterday, we feel emboldened to carry on with the operational drive within the industry, we are telling our operators not to be scared but take care.

“We are asking that at every public area in the hospitality establishments, there has to be public display of the messages and make sure our visitors have been checked and they have to take precautions, avoiding handshakes, the various precautionary measures that the Ghana Health Service has advised.

“We are asking all hotels to ensure that in the hotel rooms, these messages are boldly displayed and there are sanitizers and other washing equipment that is available for people to wash their hands and avoid the handshakes.

“Also, in the area of the restaurants and the kitchen, they have to wear protective gear that will ensure that even if somebody has a symptom that ius closer to corona virus, they are properly monitored and so we are asking that they get the testing guns that can record temperatures, so that people with high temperatures are then isolated.”

All attendees at the meeting concurred with some industry players saying that they have already begun putting in place some sanitary measures.
