One man has been confirmed dead following a raid by the Ashnati Regional Police command on a group of men suspected to be in possession of Marijuana.
The altercation from the raid resulted in one of the suspect being killed, while two others were reportedly injured, including a policeman identified as Corporal Seth Agbango.
Whatsup News gathered that the incident happened in a town in the Ashanti Region called Adomfe, near Juaso in Asante Akim South District.
According to police spokesperson, Detective Inspector Augustine Kyei, the officers acting upon a tipoff went after a dealer of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.
In the process of trying to apprehend the suspect, he is reported to have put up resistance.
In a queer turn of event, the police claim the suspect and his accomplices were arrested but an angry mob from the town chased after the police officers with rocks.
In the process, the suspect named Kofi Ampomah was hit on the head by the rocked hurled at the police.
The profusely bleeding Ampomah was said to have been rushed to Konongo Odumasi Hospital for treatment but died shortly on arrival.
This story has been called to question by critics and some townsfolk who claim the police version of the story was a complete fabrication and that Kofi Ampomah was executed for possessing Marijuana.
Meanwhile, Advocates against police high-handedness on suspected drug users and dealers have expressed disgust at what they described as a “needless execution”.
