We Won’t Quarantine Akufo-Addo When He Returns From Norway …Majority Leader

Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has sneered at suggestion that Ghana be exampled by Mongolia, and quarantine President Akufo-Addo in precaution against the deadly corona virus infections when the President returns from his trip to Norway.

In a crass act of rejecting the suggestion which was made by the MP for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, the Majority Leader vowed that the Government would rather quarantine Hon. Mubarak first, over his long spell of retching and coughing, than isolate the President.

“…as for the request by Hon. Member that the President be quarantined, I believe it was made in jest,” the Majority Leader said before reminding Hon. Mubarak he is hygiene problem with his incessant coughing in Parliament.

In doing so, the Majority Leader rejected out of hand, Hon. Mubarak’s reasoning that Ghana could learn from Mongolia which has put its President and his retinue in a 14-day quarantine after they returned from a visit to China.

President Battulga Khaltmaa and other government officials submitted themselves to a14-day quarantine upon returning home from China today. The arrangement, which was at the behest of the President himself was to ensure that if any of them had caught the deadly infection, they would not spread it to the general population.

The 14-day period is the time that experts say is required for the viral infection to produce symptoms. Even though quarantine of Ghana’s President would strictly be precautionary, the Majority in Parliament has rejected it.

President Akufo-Addo’s visit to Europe, which is battling the escalation of the corona virus infections from China, has been seen by many as rather reckless.

While in Norway, the Ghanaian President has been touring and making the maximum of photo opportunities as he send home pictures of his tour.

Meanwhile, the Majority Leader has suggested that the Minister of Health be summoned by Parliament for review of Ghana’s state of preparedness as Corona virus reaches the door step.

Nigeria, Ghana’s kissing cousin, yesterday announced that it has recorded its first case of the infections.
