Mampong Police Open Investigation into Bloody NPP Primary Clashes

The Police in Asante Mampong, in the Ashanti Region, has opened an investigation into Wednesday’s bloody clash between the supporters of two aspirants contesting for the 2020 Parliamentary ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent David Kofi Amoako, explains that participants in the brawl which led to a near-death experience by at least one person, have been invited to help with investigations.

Five people were hospitalized on Wednesday when supporters of the incumbent MP for Asante Mampong, Kwaku Sarpong Ampratwum, and those of former presidential aspirant, Francis Addai-Nimo, engaged in a brawl at the party office.

Among the weapons of choice, were chains and clubs. Assemblyman for Mampong Zongo West, Awal Ibrahim, alias ‘Obuor’ who is a supporter of the incumbent MP, fell into a violent coma after he was bludgeoned by one Kwame, from the side of Adai-Nimo.

He was one of five people who had been rushed to the Mampong Government Hospital after finding themselves at the receiving end of the heavy blows.

Kwame would later explain that he had to swing his club because Obuor and other supporters of the incumbent MP were lashing at them with chains.

The Police say they have invited all the brawlers to help with the investigation.
