Rampaging Coronavirus death toll hits 60, 2,000 infected -US, UK, Canada, and France already breached.

The latest update on the killer flu virus ravaging China and other countries shows that in less than two weeks of the outbreak, approximately 2,000 people have been infected worldwide, of which about 60 have died.

The potential epidemic disease has been described as “Never before seen” and is reportedly more deadly than the SARS flu virus in 2003 that affected over 9,000 people worldwide and killed close to 800 of those infected within a short period.

So far, besides an alert issued by the Ghana Health Services (GHS), Ghanaian authorities appear to be taking the outbreak lightly as it has already breached more secure countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France and several Asian countries such as Thailand, Japan, South Korea, etc.

The disease which can be transmitted from human to human contact has forced China to lock down the town of Wuhan where the outbreak started. Also, the Chinese government announced on Saturday, January 25, 2020, that it is imposing travel restrictions on its citizens travelling abroad and others travelling to China.

This measure may come as welcome news to countries that have been gearing up to screen travellers from China for fevers and other signs of infection.

In Ghana, there are tons of Chinese nationals who sneak into the country to engage in illegal gold mining activities in remote forest reserves. It is unclear how prepared the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has been prepped for a potential breach by an infected Chinese national or a Ghanaian traveller returning from China.

Experts say, unlike other deadly flu viruses like SARS, the Coronavirus appear to have a longer incubation period and may expose no symptoms until it is too late.
