A 28-year old shop owner, Wisdom Darkey, has been “intentionally” knocked and killed at Dzolo Gbogame by a taskforce team of Ho West District Assembly in the Volta region, Whsatsup News has gathered.
Residents claim a team of four taskforce officers including a lady and a driver locked the deceased shop because he could not pay an amount of Ghc 25.00 as district levy.
The deceased reportedly begged to pay GHC 20.00 instead as the officers demanded full payment, and that the ensuing disagreement led to the reported death.
The deceased reportedly climbed onto the bonnet of the Toyota Hilux pickup that the taskforce was using. The driver of the vehicle reportedly run him over.
Meanwhile, some irate youths of the community have vandalised the Assembly premises, burnt a car, and took away computers among other vital materials while staff of the Assembly including the District Chief Executive flee for safety to a nearby town.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Ho Teaching Hospital mortuary.
The driver of the Taskforce team in the ghastly homicide has turned himself in to the Police today
The suspect, whose name is not yet known, led himself to the Police this morning after he had fled the scene of the suspected murder of his victim.
WhatsUp News understands that since he reported to the Police, the Police have held him in detention. As at the time of going to press, no known charges had been proffered against him.
Meanwhile, the Police has since deployed personnel to the town to enforce the peace. Fears of violent retaliation from the youth have also forced the district Assembly to close down. Consequently, the official investiture of newly elected Assembly Members scheduled for today has also been postponed.
