ASANTEMAN Fights NPP -Too much talk, no action Chiefs Jab Government

There has been friction between the Ashanti traditional authority and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the past couple of days after the vocal Chief of Bantama, Baffour Amankwatia IV has chided the government twice in the past two days.
He described the Akufo Addo administration as full of talk and no action.
The latest tirade against the Akufo Addo administration came when an obviously displeased Batanma declared that nothing works properly in Kumasi.”
He warned that Chiefs in the Ashanti Region are “wild” and they may soon be forced to withdraw 55 % of stool land revenues from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), “…and develop Kumasi ourselves”.
While swearing in members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) the Batanma Chief exploded, “…with all sincerity before God, nothing works in Kumasi and the KMA boss who is sitting close to me knows it. Everybody does what they want.”

He continued the retinue of complacency that could directly be blamed at inactions of government authorities, “Our roads are in poor condition, I listened to Hon. Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu speak. When we talk about ideas, in this world I’m not sure any government has better ideas more than the NPP government. But my advice is that the NPP should put the ideas aside and start doing the action. President Akufo Addo should just do action for the people of Ashanti Region….”

Earlier, on January 15, 2020, the Manhyia Palace of the Ashanti monarch, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had officially written to the KMA to withdraw all five of its representatives on the assembly, because they say, the KMA has sidelined the revered traditional authority.
According to the letter, the government through the KMA had cut down on the traditional authority’s representatives from five to one, in what they consider an insult.
“To treat the traditional authority as some insignificant appendage carries enormous risks. Because of the seriousness of the issue, I am to inform you that Nananom [Chiefs] are not interested in any token presence on the assemblies and will not, therefore, provide any nominee for any Assembly on which they are offered not more than one representative,” read the Manhyia Palace letter signed by Kofi Badu, the Chief of Staff.
