BEIGE BANK CEO GRANTED BAIL; RADAR SHIFTS TO  DUFFUOR

Chief Executive of the defunct Beige Bank, Michael Nyinaku was on today January 17, 2020, granted a GHC 352 million cedi bail following his arrest a few days ago for allegedly stealing over GHC 300 million from the collapsed Beige Bank.
 
 
Mike Nyinaku who was remanded into Prison custody last Wednesday after his first appearance in court over the collapse of his bank was reportedly rushed to the Police hospital for an undisclosed ailment.
 
The Beige Bank CEO, who was arrested together with the Founder of UT Bank, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, are facing two charges; including sealing and money laundering.
 
The two are expected to re-appear in Court on January 22nd.
 
Meanwhile, reports being picked up indicates that former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, who is the founder of the collapsed UNIBANK is in Court to prevent the Police CID and BNI officials from a suspected attempt to drag him through the streets like the other CEOs of the seven defunct banks.
 
Dr. Duffour, is seeking an interlocutory injunction to restrain the Ghana Police Service over what he describes as “unlawful threats and harassment” following an invitation from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) last week.
 
The businessman and politician was summoned in a letter from the Special Investigation team on January 8, 2020, requesting him to make an appearance and to assist the team look into the allegation of money laundering and abetment of stealing and money laundering resulting in the collapse of  UniBank.
 
In response to the invitation, lawyer for the plaintiff, Simon Animley, is said to have written back to the Special Investigation team drawing their attention to the fact that Dr. Kwabena Duffour ceased to be the Director of UniBank  as far back as 2009 when he was appointed Minister of Finance.
Simon Animley also sought “a perpetual injunction restraining the defendant, his servant, agents, privies and assigns whatsoever from interfering with plaintiff’s fundamental human rights.”
 
The defendant in the case is Edward Tabiri of the Ghana Police Service.
