President Akufo-Addo has appointed the Ashanti Regional Director of the Commission on Humana Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mercy Larbi, as the Deputy of the Commission.
Mrs. Larbi was sworn in at a short ceremony that was held at the Jubilee House yesterday.
CHRAJ has been lacking a substantive deputy commissioner since the position was left vacant following the scandal that led to the resignation of the former Commissioner of CHRAJ, Laureta Vivian Lamptey during the Mahama era.
After the scandal had blown Ms Lamptey out of office, her deputy automatically became Acting Commissioner, leaving the substantive position of Deputy Commissioner vacant.
Before Tuesday’s appointment, MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa had accused the President of dereliction of duty over the vacancy and threatened to take legal action against the Presidency if the vacancy is not filled by close of January this year.
President Akufo-Addo urged Mrs. Mercy Larbi to work with the other Commissioners to uproot corruption in the Ghanaian society.
