Angry youth Detain NPP Chairman’s Car for Failed Promises

Some angry youth in the Tamale Central constituency of the Northern Region have detained a car belonging to Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman in the constituency, claiming he has refused to secure those jobs as promised.

The coalition of youth groups including ward executives in their anger incapacitated the tires of the pickup truck of the surprised chairman, preventing him from driving it away.

Spokesperson of the group, Shira Majeed, in an interview granted Accra-based JoyNews said, prior to the 2016 general elections, Alhaji Ibrahim promised the youth in the area that if they worked hard, and the secured a win in the elections, they would be rewarded with jobs.

However, three years after Nana Akufo-Addo won the Presidential election and the NPP won a majority in Parliament, the youth have remained as jobless as they were before the promise.

According to Alhaji Ibrahim, the constituency had programmed to engage the various youth groups in the constituency with jobs.

However, it was recently revealed that over 1000 tricycles and motorbikes meant for the youth in the region to facilitate jobs for them under the Northern Development Authority (NDA) have been spirited away by party executives.

These tricycles numbering more than 5,000 and imported in 2015 at a total cost of US$ 9.5million was meant to be leased to various youth groups and agro entrepreneurs in the northern part of the country as a poverty reduction and job creation measure.
