More than four months after the first arrest and detention of the alleged “Kitchen Knife” coup plotters, the state is yet to decide on charges to be preferred against them.
Prosecutors on Wednesday, January 8, 2019, told the Kaneshie District Court the docket on the ten people accused has now been forwarded to the Attorney – General (A-G) for advice.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Sylvester Asare, who disclosed this, when the case was called again begged the Court to adjourn the hearing till the A-G, Gloria Akufo Addo’s advice on findings on investigations into the alleged plot to oust President Akufo Addo.
The court with Mrs Eleanor Kakra – Banes Botchway on the Bench, acceded to the prosecution’s request and has adjourned the case to January 23, 2020.
By the next court case, a proper docket outlining the charges for proceedings to commence is expected to have been concluded.
The alleged coupists are being charged with crimes such as conspiracy to commit treason felony, conspiracy to possess explosives, among others.
The ten-member gang are reportedly part of a social media group called Take Action Ghana (TAG). Even though they identify as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) they are said to have been clandestinely planning a massive raid on the Jubilee House with a number of discovered crude weapons.
The group is led by a medical doctor, Dr Frederick YaoMac-Palm. Other members of the group include a blacksmith, a logistics and fleet manager, some military and police officers.
