Two National Security Officers Arraigned Over Ghc25, 000 Fraud

Tow operatives of the National Security agency have been arraigned before court for acting together to defraud a man of ghc25,000.

Edmond Kabutey and Michael Osei Okanah conspired to defraud Nathaniel Omane of the sum under the pretext of selling him an auction car from the carpool under the thumb of the Akufo-Addo government.

After receiving the money, however, the two went into hiding until Mr. Omane chanced upon Kabutey at his Castle, Annex hideout.

The victim is a resident of Osu, while Kabutey and Okanah live in Tema and Teshie, respectively.

Ins. Benson Benneh of the Osu Police told the Circuit Court presided over by Justice Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye, that Nat Omane, the complainant in the case, had in October 2018, given Kabutey GH¢25,000.00 with the understanding that Kabutey would secure him a Hyundai Elantra Saloon car which is under auction.

However, after receiving the money, the National Security operative went into hiding.

On December 18, 2019, at about 1: 20 pm, the complainant spotted Kabutey at his workplace, at the Castle Annex and caused his arrest.

Kabutey would then tell the Police, during the investigation, that he had also passed the money on to Michael Osei Okanah, leading to Okanah’s arrest.

However, Okanah was not the last guy in the rigmarole – he, in turn, told the Police that Kabutey had only given him Ghc20, 000 and not Ghc25,000 and that he had subsequently passed the Ghc20,000 on to one Mr. Boateng.

The said Mr. Boateng has since also gone into hiding.

According to Insp. Benson Benneh, the two National Security operatives shared Ghc5, 000 out of the Ghc25, 000 booty.

The two admitted the crime and were arraigned on the charges that they had been sent to court for – conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretence.
