EC Unveils Voters’ Register Exhibition Schedule Amidst Rigging Suspicion

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has set September 18th to 25^th as the dates for the exhibition of the newly compiled voters register across the country.

This is coming in the wake of intense suspicion that the EC may be up to something fishy with the register.

Last week, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) revealed an explosive content of a secret tape capturing the Deputy Bono East Regional Minister, Oti Gyaaka revealing how the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensah, after the exhibition of the register plans to delete thousands of names from areas known to be strongholds of the NDC.

Mr. Gyaaaka’s alleged voice was also hinted that EC’s data during the elections will be transmitted and routed to a master computer in the possession of the NPP which will be manipulated to give the governing party a win in the December general elections.

Meanwhile, the EC claims the exhibition of the register will afford Ghanaians the opportunity to check and confirm their particulars in the register.

Making the announcement, Director of Elections for the Commission, Dr. Serebour Quarcoo also urged Ghanaians who registered to partake in the exhibition exercise.

“This is a new compilation so there is a need for everybody to go and check his or her particulars. All should go to the centre, get a request form and show your voters’ identification card,” he said.

The compilation of new voters register by the EC was between June 30, 2020, and August 6, 2020, after countless protests from the NDC and some Civil Society Organisation about attempts to use the register to rig the 2020 elections.

Although the EC had projected registering 15 million eligible voters, the Chairperson for the Commission, Jean Mensa revealed that some 16,663,669 people were registered onto the new electoral roll.
