UCC Vice Chancellor Under Fire: Ghc2million Lavish Spending

A group of anonymous faculty members at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have raised serious allegations against the Vice Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong.

The group is calling for a thorough investigation into the Vice Chancellor’s financial conduct, accusing him of potential financial impropriety.

According to the anonymous group, Prof. Nyarko Boampong allegedly spent a staggering Ghc2 million on foreign trips in the year 2023 alone.

The group claims that their investigations revealed the Vice Chancellor undertook more than 20 trips between February 2022 and December 2023, with extravagant expenses on per diem and air tickets.

“The Vice Chancellor’s travel expenses far exceed the budgeted amount for the year 2022, raising concerns about financial mismanagement,” the group stated in a press release.

They also criticized the lack of oversight from the University’s Council, which failed to restrain Prof. Nyarko Boampong’s spending habits. Prof. Nyarko Boampong, who assumed office in June 2020, has faced backlash for his extravagant expenditures, which the group alleges have undermined the university’s financial stability.

Alumni members are reportedly considering legal action against the Vice Chancellor and the University’s Council. The group further highlighted that despite financial constraints faced by the university, Prof. Nyarko Boampong continued his lavish spending without bringing in substantial grants during his tenure.

They emphasized the necessity for a government-led investigation into the Vice Chancellor’s actions to uphold accountability.
