US FBI & Ghana Special Prosecutor and FBI Collaborate to Investigate Former Minister Cecilia Dapaah

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have launched simultaneous investigations into the activities of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources in Ghana.

The focus of these inquiries centers around the examination of her assets and financial transactions, specifically within the United States.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)@USEmbassyGhana have initiated concurrent inquiries into the activities of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, and her associates”, the OPS has posted on its Twitter handle recently morning.

According to the OSP, The collaborative effort between the OSP and the FBI aims to determine the legality of Ms. Dapaah’s wealth, particularly concerning the movement of funds between Ghana and the United States. The inquiries will delve into her financial activities, assets, and their origins to ascertain any potential misappropriation of public resources or involvement in illicit financial practices.

This joint investigation highlights the growing commitment of Ghana’s enforcement agencies to combat corruption and financial misconduct, as well as their willingness to collaborate with international counterparts to achieve these goals. The involvement of the FBI demonstrates cooperation in identifying and addressing potential instances of financial impropriety that may transcend national borders.

As the investigations progress, scrutiny will be placed on Ms. Dapaah’s financial dealings and the provenance of her wealth. This includes examining the sources and legitimacy of funds associated with her and her associates, both within Ghana and the United States.

Ultimately, the joint efforts of the OSP and the FBI in investigating the assets and financial transactions of Cecilia Dapaah aim to ensure transparency and accountability in public office, upholding the principles of good governance and safeguarding the interests of the Ghanaian people.

Cecilia Dapaah is a suspect under investigation for corruption and corruption-related offences including using public office for profit in respect of suspected “tainted large cash sums reportedly stolen from her residential premises by her domestic servants
